January 28 – Drafting with Margaret

Gillian cropWe got busy with compasses and coloured pencils as Margaret led us through a hands-on workshop on pattern drafting. She showed us how with a few simple supplies — graph paper, coloured pencils, rulers and a compass — we can draft or resize any patchwork quilt pattern. This night we tried the LeMoyne Star and a flexible grid. She pointed out that a knowledge of drafting is also a great way to get inside a block design and really understand how it works.
