Maritime Museum of the Atlantic event with Laurie Swim
Artist Laurie Swim has undertaken to create a community art project, The Halifax Explosion Memorial for the centenary in 2017. She is inviting folks from all over Nova Scotia to participate in the beading of the Scroll of Remembrance in Braille that will accompany her series of quilted art works when completed.
On Dec.6, the 97th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion 1917, Laurie will introduce the beading of the scroll of remembrance in Braille at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Lower Water Street in Halifax. The event starts at 1 o’clock and continues throughout the afternoon. Janet Kitz, the author of The Shattered City will be saying a few words along with Laurie. Several of the works in progress will be on display as well as a preview of the video documentary being made of the project. Following that, David Stone will be performing songs he has written about the disaster.
The MMA is asking for donations to the Food Bank by way of admission. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there to support this wonderful project.
