Mariners Quilt Guild

Snow Dyeing

At our meeting on March 9, 2015, Mariners’ members found more colourful inspiration.

Our evening started with a brief meeting then some lovely Show and Share projects from our members.  One theme that emerged this evening was the challenge of using fabrics collected in a variety of fun ways – from gifts, donations and previous projects.

After the break, Jacqueline led us in a session of snow dyeing that had everyone playing in the snow and experimenting with colour combinations and folding variations.  I managed to take a few pictures before  I got caught up in the fun of playing myself.  Everyone left with a container – or two – filled with dye, snow and fabric, determined to wait 24 hours (!?) to see what they had created.

Jacqueline wanted me to remind everyone that any containers used for dye can no longer be used for food.  They must be reserved for dyeing or rinsed and added to recycling.

It was a fun program.  Thanks to Jacqueline for all the preparation and for providing a use for some of the snow.  I, for one, am looking forward to seeing some of the results at our next meeting.
