Time for the big reveal

Our May 11 meeting included the AGM with reports from all the executive members.  It was a good chance to review all that happened for this busy 2014/2015 season.  Clearly we were not deterred by the long winter or all the snow and ice.  Well, except for the meeting that had to be cancelled because of snow in the parking lot.  There were some meetings where attendance was down but overall we had good turnouts for a variety of programs that highlighted the talents of members and guests.  There were also plenty of hands-on sessions to give us a chance to learn and practice new skills.  AND after expenses, we actually came out a little ahead this year, which bodes well for the coming season.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of the organizing committee this past year.  And welcome to the new executive, including President, Patti Clark and Vice President, Robyn Brown.  Full committee members will be posted on site shortly but the nominating committee, headed by Jackie L., is still looking for more members, particularly a Treasurer and several people for the programming and workshop committees.  It is lots of fun and there are very few meetings.  If you would like to learn more about joining the Executive or its committees – or are ready to volunteer – contact Jackie or Patti at marinersquiltguild@hotmail.com.

After a very short break, we had the exciting reveal for our “Lunchbox Challenge”, so called because all participants put 2 M of fabric in a Lunchbox and then chose another box and created a quilt for the owner – without spilling the secret of who was picked.  Thanks to Jackie for organizing the fun event.  Results were quite amazing.  It was funny that 6 pairs of people randomly ended up selecting each other during the exchange.  I’m told that didn’t happen at all when this challenge was done 3 years ago.  Check out the Gallery for most of the pictures (some have to stay hidden until next time because people were unable to come but we did get some sneak peeks, which will not be revealed here – we don’t want to spoil the surprise).  Prepare to be impressed.

The next meeting will be held on May 25.  It is the last of the season.   There will be a guest speaker (TBA).  Please bring a dish to share at the potluck and don’t forget to bring your entries for the President’s Challenge.
