Mariners Quilt Guild

March is Craft Month

March is National Craft Month in Canada and the US.  The Mariners’ quilters got to try their hand this month with a few different crafts. Crazy quilting with Vera McInnis, Shiva Paint Stiks with Karen Henry, and screen printing with Beth Arden.  It was a  wonderful way to celebrate those crafting skills.

Shiva Paint Stiks with Karen Henry was a evening of fun and creativity and Karen has provided us with her notes from that evening, as well as instructions in using the Shiva Paint Stiks.

We were pleased to welcome Beth Arden to demonstrate screen printing. Many members took delight in trying their hand at screening.  A messy buy great skill.  Beth has her own company Poison Pear and sells her textiles at the Seaport Market in Halifax. As well as at the Trainyard General Store in downtown Dartmouth.  Here are a few images from those evenings.

Crazy Quilt Workshop

On Saturday March 4th, quilters gathered with Vera McInnis (Bearly Works Creations) to take on the task of learning crazy quilting.  We were thankful that weather permitted Vera to travel and be with us.  It was an excellent workshop and quilters discovered that the only rule in crazy quilting is to have fun!.  A lot of members used a variety of cotton, but a few branched out with different textures using velvet, silk, and organzas.  There is no wrong way to do crazy quilting so members stretched their creativity and had fun.  Looking forward to seeing their pieces at Show and Share.  Here are some images of some of the participant’s work. Thanks to Patti Clark for taking the pictures.
